VIDIC Data Scientist Job Vacancy

Data Scientist

About Us:

The Virgin Islands Deposit Insurance Corporation (VIDIC) is a statutory body enacted by the Government of the Virgin Islands to provide protection for depositors against loss of eligible deposits at member institutions (banks) in the event of the failure of a bank and to contribute to the financial stability of the British Virgin Islands. Though our organization is small, our impact is mighty. As a startup organization, we operate with integrity, precision, and a consumer-first mindset, serving a critical role in the financial system. We are looking for a datadriven, hands-on team player to help us scale and build our data capabilities.

The Role:

As our Data Scientist, you will be a key player in empowering VIDIC with data-driven insights and innovative analytic solutions. You will work with both structured and unstructured datasets to design and execute projects in data engineering, analytics, business intelligence, and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) use cases. Your work will support risk analysis, activities of VIDIC in fulfilling our mandate, financial system stability, and regulatory decision-making.

You will also collaborate with co-monitoring bodies, member institutions, and industry peers to ensure the exchange and use of high-quality data. You will play a pivotal role in compiling data for publications and responding to research requests while leveraging your technical and domain expertise to drive impactful results.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and implement scalable, auditable extract transform and load (ETL) or extract load transform (ELT) processes to handle structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data from multiple sources.

Automate data workflows using SQL, R/Python, C++, Java and Business Intelligence tools like Tableau to extract insights and support risk identification at member bank and system levels.

Build and prototype dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that provide clear, actionable insights for stakeholders.

Collaborate with stakeholders to identify relevant data and methodological approaches, delivering results to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Drive the adoption of advanced analytics techniques, including AI/ML, statistical analysis, and natural language processing, to enhance VIDIC’s capabilities.

Act as a technical leader and transformation agent, bringing modern data science and programming approaches into a regulatory environment.

Qualifications:

Strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, and data science principles with proven experience in scripting and programming for data extraction and analysis.

Expertise in SQL; proficiency with Tableau or other BI tools; and familiarity with R/Python is a plus.

Minimum of 4 years of experience in an analytical or data science role, with demonstrated success in data visualization and communication of insights.

Experience with banking, econometrics, and financial risk data is highly desirable.

Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.

Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or a related field.

Why Join Us:

Be part of a mission-driven organization committed to protecting depositors and enhancing financial system stability.

A chance to build and shape the data infrastructure of a startup statutory body while developing your career.

Competitive compensation package based on experience, with opportunities for growth as the organization scales.
